Virginia Smoking Ban FAQ and Polls

December 1st, 2009

No Smoking SignNow that the smoking ban has gone into effect restaurants and bars will have to make the decision on whether to make the necessary adjustments to their establishment. Will they spend the money? Will smoking customers go somewhere else? Will non-smokers now frequent a traditional smoking bar?

Here is a FAQ that will fill you in on all the smoking ban information.

I have also created a few polls to see what people think about the subject. If you have other polls you would like to see let me know and I will post them.

Also please leave comments.  This is a subject I’m sure many of you have opinions on.

Virginia Tech vs University of Virginia – November 28 2009

November 28th, 2009

Virginia Tech LogoLet’s Go!!! Hokies!!!

We visited Scott Stadium to witness another Virginia Teach football beat down of UVA.  If felt like there was about as many Hokie fans as Hoo’s fans.   The halftime score was 14-13 VT.  The Hoo’s gave them a good game up until that point.  The second half was a different story though.  The Hokies broke it open in the third quarter and then put them out of their misery in the fourth quarter.  The final score was 42-13.

Note: Al Groh was fired the following Monday morning after a 3-8 season.

Restaurant Openings

Thievery Corporation at Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall

October 29th, 2009

This evening Michelle, Brian, Lillian and I made the trip to Charlottesville, VA to see Thievery Corporation on their Radio Retaliation tour.  It was pretty much the same show as we saw at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., in January, but as always it’s still worth the time and money.

If you want to see them they are playing again this January 21-23 at the 9:30 Club.  All shows are already sold out but I’m sure you can get a ticket if you really want to go.

Birkdale Golf Club

October 22nd, 2009

Location: Chesterfield, Virginia
Tee: Blue
Par: 71

Today I played with Brian and Shawn at Birkdale Golf Club. I sound like a broken record when talking about my golf game but I can’t putt worth a damn. My next lesson will certainly be on my speed control. I shot a 97 and considering my poor putting that’s not so bad.

Birkdale is a nice course and very affordable. If you are on the southside of Richmond it’s worth a round.

Indian Creek Country Club

October 11th, 2009

I took my first golf lesson this past week from Bobby Lopez and what a huge difference it made on the course. I struck the ball really consistent which in the two years I have been playing hasn’t been the case. Unfortunately my score didn’t reflect it very much because I putted so poorly.

Par 72

Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons

October 9th, 2009

I was given Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons The Modern Fundamentals of Golf to read. The book was written in 1957 and from what I’ve heard is still the first book a golf professional will recommend to a new golfer. I will report back after reading but I feel confident in saying it should be a good read or it wouldn’t be getting recommended in 2009.

Bobby Lopez Golf Lessons

October 8th, 2009

Bobby Lopez offers high quality golf instruction with video analysis at a price any golfer can afford. Every day but Sunday Bobby gives lessons at the Patterson Avenue Putt Putt in Goochland, VA. He is an ex-PGA Golf Professional and former Touring Professional on the European Tour.

For $19 I got a 45 minute lesson with video analysis. It was really worth the money for any golfer.
