My Best Round As A Golfer

It’s my third season as a golfer and I have finally broken into the 80′s. Today I shot 87 at Indian Creek Country Club in Kilmarnock on quite possibly the nicest day of the year so far. One snowman on a par 5 and a double for good measure, but everything else was a bogey or par.

Taking a break in the middle of the summer has been the best thing for my game as two of my last three rounds where the only 80′s I have ever shot. On top of that this marks the first time I have ever beaten my father. He was very gracious in his first defeat, but I plan on doing this more in the coming months so I hope he is ready for me. Brian threw together a nice group of pars but his front nine really hurt his score.

What a great day to have my best round. Hit em good.

Golf Weekend

I played The Hollows Cottage/Lake Course this weekend and shot a 90. I’m still putting terribly, but to shoot 90 with 42 putts shows I”m striking the ball pretty well. It’s frustrating to still be putting so badly, but I’m going to keep trying and one day it will come.

Sunday I finished my round from Independence Golf Club where my front nine was a 45. I shot a 46 on the back for a 91. 19 putts so a little better than Saturday, but still had 2 3-putts and 0 1-putts.

The Highlands Golf Club

Today I played The Highlands Golf Club for the first time with my old college buddy John O’Brian and his friend who is a member. This is a very nice course with challenging greens, rolling fairways and elevated or declining greens. I shot a 96 and hit the ball very well. Putting, Putting, Putting…

Hunting Hawk

After a terrible storm the course is in pretty bad condition accept for the greens which were clean and pretty fast. Brian and I walked 18 for the first time and both enjoyed it a lot. I’m definitely making progress playing weekly. I tied my best round of a 94 and still had two out of bounds and a triple and quadruple bogey so the goal of upper 80′s seems very achievable during this season.

Independence Golf Club

The 8th outing of the year was at Independence Golf Club located in Chesterfield, Virginia off Huguenot Trail / Robious Road. The course is in excellent condition for the early season and the greens are very fast. I played with Brian Enroughty, Rich Melito and Shawn Golden. A large storm cut our round short so we had to take a rain check but after nine holes I shot a 45 and for my current 25-27 handicap that is pretty good. This was also the very first time playing this course so that is a plus as well. Hopefully we can get the other nine in so I can count the round toward my handicap. I have to have one established for my father’s member guest tournament at Indian Creek Country Club by June.

2010 Jack Daniels Golf Tournament at Hunting Hawk

Being in the restaurant business there are always fun events we get to take part in when the vendors want to say thank you for selling their products. Today Jack Daniels had their golf tournament at Hunting Hawk Golf Club in Glen Allen, Virginia. I played with Brian Enroughty, Shawn Golden and Sean Patterson. The format was Captain’s Choice with awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Last, closest to the pin on numerous holes and longest putt. We had a really good day and if it wasn’t for one bogey (I know, a Captain’s Choice bogey is bad) we would have tied for the win. Instead we shot -14 (including 3 eagles) and each won XL Jack Daniels T-shirts. Notice I put the size in there? Why is it that when companies give away T-shirts they assume every person is a 250lb man. I understand it’s just easier to make on size shirt and more cost effective, but what about the normal sized guys? A medium would be ideal, however, that’s asking too much, but a large is a good compromise. While I would enjoying wearing this golf shirt from time to time on the course it’s hard to play golf wearing a nightgown. But whatever, it’s a shirt that I don’t get to wear, oh well. The best part was getting out on a Monday with some friends, drinking some Bourbon and playing golf.

Big thanks goes out to Jack Daniels for putting on a great tournament. I hope to play again next year, but win this time.

King Carter Golf Course

Today I played at King Carter Golf Course located in Irvington, Virginia with my father, Brian Enroughty and Shawn Golden. It’s a very nice public course with a lot of shape, hills and very nice greens. I shot a 98 from the blue tees which has a slope rating of 133 and considering the wind and fresh rain I’m not too disappointed. I still need to knock about 10 putts off my rounds.

Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club

Today I played at Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club located in Kilmarnock, Virginia with my father, Brian Enroughty and Shawn Golden. It’s a very nice private course with a lot of water, bunkers and it’s very flat. I shot a 94 from the blue tees which has a slope rating of 126. This is my best round at ICYCC. I had two 8′s on holes two and three so I could have easily broken the 90 barrier.
